Mission: Ensure the Health and Safety of the Public and the Soundness and Habitability of the City's Residential, Industrial and Commercial Structures.

Building And Trade Inspections

The Building and Trade Inspection Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Connecticut State Building Code. We inspect new construction and existing building renovations, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or the use of equipment and systems. Staff is dedicated to ensure the health and public safety of the citizens of the City of Hartford. Inspections can be scheduled by contacting the following inspectors:

 



Housing Code & Rodent Control Enforcement

Housing Code and Rodent Control inspectors enforce State Statutes and Municipal Ordinances that protect the public health, safety and welfare in all three-family or more, and mixed use residential/ commercial structures; as well as one and two-family dwellings that are not occupied by the property owner. The general maintenance of all aspects of a building are enforced for example lighting, ventilation, occupancy density, plumbing fixtures, supply and waste lines, heat and hot water, sanitation, rodent control measures, etc. Our main goal is to obtain compliance and ensure the safety of the public.

Weights & Measures

The Sealer of Weights and Measures inspects and tests all weights and measures devices, securing compliance with laws and ordinances. Devices due for inspection are store scales, gas pumps, oil pumps, taxis, parking lot meters, and laundry dryers. All establishments with these devices must have them inspected and pay a fee in accordance with Section 34-5 of the City of Hartford Municipal Code.

General Licenses

As the licensing Agency for the City of Hartford we accept applications and issue licenses for a number reasons including Dance Halls, Pawnbrokers, Secondhand Dealers, Laundromats, Designated Vendor, Merchandise Vending, One-day Helper/ peddler, Billiard, Tattoo, Bowling Alley. By coordinating the efforts of various State and local government officials, we ensure the public’s safety; requiring stringent code compliance of all license applicants. Zoning Enforcement

The goal of the Zoning Program is to examine plans and permit applications, with the purpose of issuing permits and Zoning Certificate of Occupancies, for those who have met the zoning requirements.
