Mission: The Planning Division promotes the development of the City by helping citizens and policy makers visualize Hartford’s development opportunities and provides professional planning reviews for the City’s land use regulatory boards and commissions.

Regulatory Land Use

The Planning Division provides staff support to six regulatory boards and commissions, which operate according to Municipal Ordinances and State and Federal Regulations

The Planning Division supports community groups, business associations, and civic associations in all of Hartford's seventeen neighborhoods.

Geographic Information Systems & Mapping

The Planning Division chairs the GIS Council of the City of Hartford. Any questions concerning the availability of GIS information should be directed to Margaret Brown at 860-757-9049.

The Planning Division has a key role in regulating and managing Hartford's national, state, and locally-designated historic properties, which number more than 4,000.
