ELDERLY SERVICES
PROVIDES A VARIETY OF SERVICES THAT PROMOTE INDEPENDENCE AND PREVENT
PREMATURE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF THE ELDERLY. SELF SUFFICIENCY AND
INDEPENDENCE ARE PROMOTED THROUGH SEVERAL HOME AND COMMUNITY BASED
SUPPORT, TRAINING, COUNSELING AND RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS. JOB TRAINING,
JOB DEVELOPMENT AND JOB PLACEMENT SERVICES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. THIS
DIVISION ALSO MANAGES CONTRACTS WITH 11 SENIOR CENTERS, WHICH PROVIDE
RECREATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND MEDICAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY.
CLUB 55+ A CONCEPT
IN SENIOR RECREATION
THE CITY OF HARTFORD DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN
SERVICES DIVISION HAS PARTNERED WITH SOUTHEND COMMUNITY SERVICES AND
SAND CORPORATION IN DEVELOPING A NEW CONCEPT IN SENIOR RECREATION WITHIN
THE CITY.
THE CITY CURRENTLY FUNDS WEEKDAY SENIOR
ACTIVITIES WITH SENIOR CENTERS THAT OPERATE MONDAY - FRIDAY FROM 9:00
A.M. 3:00 P.M.. MANY SENIORS ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND DURING THESE HOURS.
THE EVENING AND WEEKEND FOCUS OF CLUB 55+ WILL OFFER CREATE,
CHALLENGING, INTERACTIVE, AND STIMULATING PROGRAMS OR EVENTS.
MEMBERSHIP TO CLUB 55+ IS OPEN TO ALL
HARTFORD RESIDENTS AGE 55 AND OVER.

HOME HELP PROGRAM
Provides Homecare services to homebound
elderly Hartford residents 60 years or older, in order to allow them to
retain the independence of living in their own homes. Homemaker, chore,
handyman and home repair services are performed by caring, qualified
individuals.
ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED TAX REBATE PROGRAM
A program of tax relief for those elderly renters who are 65 years
old or totally disabled persons, and meet income requirments.
Applications are taken from May 15 to September 15 each year.
SENIOR SERVICES AND CENTERS
Serving seniors throughout the city, these private agencies receive
funding in part or total from the City of Hartford. Open to all Hartford
residents.

A safe, door to door transportation service operating 7 days a week.
Call for schedule. Service available to any Hartford resident who is
disabled or age 60 or older. Service for medical trips, food shopping,
senior center nutrition and religious service. Must reserve trips in
advance (724-5340). Mandatory pass needed to use service. $20.00
donation requested.
SENIOR SKILLS JOB BANK
Employment and income alternatives for Hartford's older
job seekers age 60 and over. Staff available to provide free
employment counseling and assistance in job placement.
SENIOR AIDE TITLE V
A federal elderly employment program for Hartford residents age 55
and older. Senior Aides work part time, 20 hours a week at community
service jobs.
PHOTO IDENTIFICATION CARDS
Must be a Hartford resident. Cards issued last Friday of every month
from 1 until 3 p.m. except July and August. Bring Social Security card,
Medicare card. Cards can be used for ID in cashing checks and to obtain
Senior citizens discounts from merchants, etc.
MUNICIPAL AGING AGENT
Information and referral services to elderly clients for assistance
concerning retirement problems and or adjustments. Referral to
appropriate community agencies.
Supportive Services
Counseling services for elderly individuals who have medical,
financial, social and housing needs.
Contributions in support of the Home Help, or Outreach and Direct
Services will be gratefully accepted.
