INFANT/TODDLER EARLY LEARNING CENTER

This program provides care for children ages 6 weeks to 36 months. Through daily interactions with responsible, affectionate adults, babies experience positive relationships that develop trust and emotional security. Toddlers develop self-confidence when they are free to explore, to master new skills and when they feel that caring adults encourage them and take pleasure in their interests and accomplishments. The program supports infants and toddlers in developing language, physical, social and cognitive skills.

PRESCHOOL EARLY LEARNING CENTER

Young children learn best through active exploration of their environment and interactions with other children and adults. Children have a natural desire to learn and make sense of the world around them. Self-confidence and self-esteem grow as children experience success.

The early learning centers promote a stimulating, challenging learning environment. The full time staff  provide the children with an environment of consistency and a sense of security. Through the age and individually appropriate curriculum, our trained teachers give children daily opportunities to develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. Our goal is to meet the needs of the whole child. When these needs are met children are successful in Kindergarten and successful in life.

EARLY LEARNING CENTERS

The City of Hartford Day Care Early Learning Centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children ( NAEYC ). Accreditation is a process in which a program's administrators, staff and parents join with representatives of NAEYC to determine whether that program meets nationally recognized criteria for high quality. PARENT INVOLVEMENT, EDUCATION, and OUTREACH

Our programs respect the cultural and linguistic diversity of each family in communications, classroom curriculum, and family activities.

We accomplish this by:

  • providing bi-lingual staff in the centers and Day Care Administration

  • making written communications available in other languages

  • serving diverse ethnic and cultural groups

  • incorporating diversity at the centers through such means as music, cooking activities and an anti-bias curriculum.

  • visuals and toys which represent the diverse families we serve

  • multi-ethnic pot luck dinners

  • holiday celebrations

  • inviting parents to participate with the children regarding their own culture

Parent Groups

Officers are nominated and voted on annually in the fall during each center’s Open House.  All parents are given equal opportunity to volunteer for nomination.  Staff from the centers and Day Care Administration work collaboratively with the Parent Group officers.

PASSPORT TO SUCCESS

The Passport to Success initiative is sponsored by Mayor Eddie Perez and managed by the Health and Human Services Department. The program works towards the following 3 primary goals:

1.   Provide monitoring and tracking of children for at least 5 years. The intent is to ensure that children are going through key developmental milestones successfully.

2.   Enhance the capacity of parents to appropriately parent their children. This aims to increase their capacity to become the primary advocators for  children.

3.   Ensure that needed enrichment and remedial services are available.

Currently, the program has the following components:

1.   Pilot Project: 60 children were selected from the Frog Hollow, Upper Albany and other neighborhoods. The pilot project will help identify all program elements necessary to increase chances of success.

2.   Medals of Success: Medals are given to all children who graduate from Pre-K to kindergarten.

3.   Community Events

For information, call Elba Cruz Schulman at (860) 543-8847, or send an email be clicking on their name.  The Passport to Success office is located on the fifth floor at 2 Holcomb Street, Hartford, CT 06112.
