The goal of the Public Health Program is to develop and
maintain Hartford as a healthy community by developing a sound
public health infrastructure, promoting healthy life styles,
controlling and preventing diseases and by enforcing the public
health code.
The
Public Health Education program addresses the health and
wellness of Hartford residents by providing services that
educate and inform them on various health-related issues.
This program provides and coordinates health education
initiatives in the Hartford community. These initiatives include
presentations and programs offered to community organizations,
schools, day care centers, shelters, parent’s groups, senior
centers, seminars for qualified food operators and food
handlers. The program utilizes the government access channel and
radio stations to further its outreach efforts.
The program maintains strong partnerships with community based
and service providing organizations to maximize its efforts to
reach the largest number of residents.
Examples
of current ongoing health education programs:
Dancing to Wellness/Salud con Ritmo-

and stay in shape. An adult of medium build can burn about 150
calories doing 30 minutes of moderate social dancing.
