Free and Open to the Public

Exhibitions represent a wide range of traditional and new media: painting, photography, graphics, crafts, architecture, and design.  Most shows are one person shows by Greater Hartford Artists.  In conjunction, related lectures, panel discussions and gallery talks are also scheduled on occasion.  The exhibition program aims to provide opportunities for Hartford and Greater Hartford artists to exhibit, as well as view, significant works of their counterparts on the local level.  All exhibitions are free and open to the public. If you are an artist interested in exhibiting your work, please forward your information to achaparro@hartford.gov for consideration.

* Resident Artists Bio

The Office of Cultural Affairs works to create an environment in Hartford that respects, and acknowledges its resident artists.  We plan to compile Greater Hartford artists bio’s which will be posted on our website.  The website serves to give regional artists much deserved notoriety.  The biographies include pictures of the artists, their background, and sample of their work.  If you are a Greater Hartford artist and wish to be considered, please contact us at achaparro@hartford.gov

* Evelyn Preston Fund

This fund is co-administered by the Office of Cultural Affairs along with Bank of America.  The Evelyn Preston Fund awards are used to support the Summer Music Series in Hartford.  All concerts take place within Hartford city limits between June-September.  The various music genres include Jazz, Latin, Reggae, Salsa, Polka, Children’s Music, Classical, Hip-Hop, Gospel, Country, Chamber Music, Blue Grass, etc…

Summer 2010 applications will be released in July 24, 2009

The Office of Cultural Affairs presents an annual “Music In The City Calendar” which details hundreds of free concerts in Hartford every summer.  If you are interested in having a Summer Music Calendar delivered, please contact achaparro@hartford.gov

Painting, Photography, Collages, Sculpture, Graffiti Art, Arts & Craft, Multi-Media Art, Quilt    Making, Knitting, Cartooning (comic book art). For program details, including dates and locations, please contact achaparro@hartford.gov

* Mayors Award for Arts and Culture

The Office of Cultural Affairs recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions to Hartford’s cultural life by resident artists.  The Office of Cultural Affairs is planning a yearly event that will feature an art exhibit, dining, music, and distinguished host.

* Arts & Craft

Arts and Crafts activities offered after school at neighborhood Recreation Centers and schools throughout the city.  These activities are geared for the younger afterschool youth,  For younger children, this is a fun and comfortable introduction to art.  Arts and crafts for seniors are provided during the day throughout the year.  For more information please contact achaparro@hartford.gov

* Poetry

The Office of Cultural Affairs sponsors the "Spoken Word Series" events scheduled during the months of April and May. Free and Open to the Public. See our Calendar of Events for this year's lineup.

* Pork Pie Hat Jazz Concert Series

September-December 2009, Open to all ages, children have to be accompanied by parents/guardian 2009 Series features internationally recognized jazz musicians.   Promotes greater understanding, and appreciation to the American Classical Music we know as “Jazz”.  All concerts are held in Hartford Cultural Center and will be available for a nominal entry fee.

 * Music

Office of Cultural Affairs produces a variety of different concerts throughout the year that are free and open to the public.  These performances will have a variety of different genres of music.
