EARLY LEARNING CENTERS

The City of Hartford has been operating child care programs for over 50 years, and currently operates ( 8 ) preschool centers ( 7 in public schools ) and an Infant / Toddler center. These centers are conveniently located in various city neighborhoods.

The City of Hartford Day Care Early Learning Centers are Nationally Accredited child care programs, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children ( NAEYC ). Accreditation is a process in which a program's administrators, staff and parents join with representatives of NAEYC to determine whether that program meets nationally recognized criteria for high quality. NAEYC defines a high quality program as one that meets the needs of and promotes the physical, social emotional and cognitive development of children.

Hours of operation for these centers are 7 AM to 5 PM. All centers open 52 weeks a year and are open during school vacations and most snow days.

Fees are based on a sliding scale according to family size and income.

INFANT / TODDLER CARE

This program provides care for children ages 6 weeks to 36 months. Through daily interactions with responsible, affectionate adults, babies experience positive relationships that develop trust and emotional security. Toddlers develop self-confidence when they are free to explore, to master new skills and when they feel that caring adults encourage them and take pleasure in their interests and accomplishments. The program supports infants and toddlers in developing language, physical, social and cognitive skills.

PRESCHOOL

Young children learn best through active exploration of their environment and interactions with other children and adults. Children have a natural desire to learn and make sense of the world around them. Self-confidence and self-esteem grow as children experience success.

The early learning centers promote a stimulating, challenging learning environment. The full time staff provide the children with an environment of consistency and a sense of security. Through the age and individually appropriate curriculum, our trained teachers give children daily opportunities to develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. Our goal is to meet the needs of the whole child. When these needs are met children are successful in Kindergarten and successful in life.
