Zoning Classes and Districts

The Department of Licenses & Inspections, Zoning Administration, administers the zoning regulations for the City of Hartford. This division makes inspections in response to complaints, makes preventative inspections, issues zoning permits and zoning certificates of occupancy.

The division is also responsible for interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance for the general public. The Senior Planner acts as staff secretary to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The division consists of one Senior Planner, one Zoning Assistant and one Planning Aide.

 

The purpose of zoning is to promote the health, safety and welfare of the public. Zoning districts and regulations for each district have been established to:

Permit development in accordance with the City's Plan of Development. Preserve and enhance the value of the property. Lessen traffic and congestion
Permit property owner’s reasonable use of their property
