Cirque
du Soleil chooses Hartford for two-week engagement
Cirque du Soleil will raise its state-of-the-art big top, the blue-and-yellow
Grand Chapiteau, in Southern New England for the first time ever
with its live production DRALION. The trademark blue-and-yellow
Grand Chapiteau will be located in Hartford, Conn. on Market Street
at the intersection of I-84 and I-91 (Northwest corner) for a limited
engagement beginning Tuesday, June 24, 2003.
HEDC has worked
with Cirque du Soleil to obtain the necessary permits and provide
other local support for this dynamic traveling performance troupe.

Colt
Gateway signs first commercial tenant
Homes for America Holdings, Inc. (HFAH) takes a giant step forward
in its vision for the Colt Gateway with the announcement it has
a tenant for approximately 25 percent of its commercial space. The
announcement comes just weeks after HFAH purchased the historic
Colt property and unveiled its master plan for redeveloping the
historic site and its vision for connecting the site to the city,
its riverfront and the surrounding areas.
Capitol Region
Education Council (CREC), a regional educational service center
created to improve the quality of public education, signed a lease
on the L-shaped building that includes 48,320 square feet of space.
CREC will house several of its programs there in September.
The announcement
is perceived by many Hartford business leaders as validation the
Colt Gateway complex will be a strong contributor to the revitalization
of downtown.

Prospect
Financial Services chosen as exclusive mortgage lender
Prospect Financial Services, a Hartford-based, full-service mortgage
lender committed to leveling the playing field of mortgage lending
for all people, was chosen by the Hartford Housing Authority to
be the lead mortgage company for a new neighborhood development
at the former Stowe Village site. Stowe Village was razed to make
way for 200 new single- family homes. The homes will be offered
first to the former residents of the housing project who meet the
qualifications. This first-time homebuyer neighborhood initiative
is part of the mayor’s broader citywide objective to increase homeownership
throughout Hartford.
The Kente
LLC, experiences 40% growth, moves to Hartford
The Kente LLC, a design-oriented marketing communications firm,
has experienced tremendous growth in the last year and, as a result,
recently moved from East Hartford to new, more spacious offices
on Gillett Street in Hartford. “We like the idea of being here in
the heart of the city,” said Kente President Robert Kyerematen.
“Hartford has everything a growing business could want, including
convenient access to clients, great restaurants, an educated and
creative workforce, and an sense of energy that is invigorating.”
HEDC
featured in special section of Greater Hartford magazine
HEDC means business. For Hartford. And, by building the economic
base one business at a time in the capital city, the Hartford Economic
Development Commission helps create an improved business climate
that can rejuvenate the entire region. So begins a special section
in the April issue of Greater Hartford, a magazine published at
Southside Media in Hartford. The article outlines HEDC’s positive
impact on economic development throughout the city.

is HIP according to new television ads
The Hartford Image Project’s newest television ad, recently launched
as part of a collaborative marketing and promotional initiative
for Hartford and the Hartford region, is receiving kudos from all
who view it. The ad, designed by Pita Communications, can be viewed
as a .mov file on the Pita Communications web site at www.pitacommunications.com
-- click on ‘work,’ then ‘advertising’ and choose ‘Hartford Image
Project campaign.’
The Hartford
Image Project was founded by the Hartford Economic Development
Commission, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the City of Hartford,
the Capital City Economic Development Authority, Waterford Development,
Hartford 2000, the MetroHartford Regional Economic Alliance, the
Greater Hartford Tourism District, the Greater Hartford Convention
& Visitors Bureau, the Connecticut Office of Tourism, and
the Office of Governor John G. Rowland. In addition to its founders,
HIP sponsors include the City of Hartford and the Hartford Foundation
for Public Giving.
