HEDC,
Mayor host economic development professionals
Hartford Economic Development Commission and Hartford Mayor Eddie
A. Perez played host June 24 to approximately 50 economic development
professionals from across Connecticut who came to see for themselves
Hartford’s strategy for success. After a slide presentation that
included photographs and details about some of the larger development
projects, the visitors were treated to a walking tour of downtown
projects. The Connecticut Economic Development Association (CEDAS)
event was hosted by HEDC.

HEDC,
JA team to teach area school kids about business
Not every
Friday at Jumoke Academy begins with a junior choir concert and
a drill team performance. But then it’s not every Friday that
Jumoke students have the opportunity to play host to a group of
Hartford professionals – and the children wanted to make sure
the businesspeople received a warm welcome.
The Hartford
Economic Development Commission (HEDC) brought the adults and
schoolchildren together as part of the city’s “Share Our Civic
Pride” campaign, to introduce children from Jumoke Academy to
the world of business and economics on a local, regional, national
and international level. HEDC invited other Hartford-based professionals
to join them in teaching Junior Achievement’s grade-specific curriculum
to each of the first through sixth grade classes at Jumoke in
June.

Redevelopment Agency gives final approval to housing plans
Two local
developers who plan to create more housing in the city were given
final approval by the Hartford Redevelopment Agency, which sold
them city-owned properties. The Corporation for Independent Living
is planning to build three owner-occupied, single-family homes
on Edgewood Street, and Rego Realty Corporation is renovating
three “perfect sixes” to yield 18 units of market rate housing
on Broad Street.
HEDC serves
as the administrative arm of the Hartford Redevelopment Agency.
Hartford
named ‘4-star city’ by Expansion Management Magazine
For the first time, Hartford has been named among the country’s

for a place to expand or relocate their facilities within the
next one to three years.
Expansion
Management recently published its 5th annual “Quality of Life
QuotientTM ratings of the 329 metropolitan statistical areas (MSA)
