Deputy Chief John K. Horvath

Appointed Deputy Chief on August 13, 2007, by
Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts, Deputy Chief
John K. Horvath commands the HPD's North Division
that includes the Northeast and Northwest Districts
comprised of the North Meadows, Northeast, Upper
Albany, Clay Hill, Clay Arsenal, Blue Hills, Asylum
Hill, and West End neighborhoods. As North
Division Chief, Deputy Chief Horvath is responsible
for implementation of the Hartford Police
Department's Neighborhood Policing Plan throughout
the north end of the city.
A thirteen year
veteran of the HPD, Deputy Chief Horvath has
commanded the Hartford Police Department’s
Intelligence Division and Crisis Negotiation Team.
He has also supervised the Violent Crime Impact Team
and Fugitive Task Force. Deputy Chief Horvath led
the Dignitary Protection Unit, served as an
investigator assigned with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism
Task Force, and has served as a member of the
Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council. He has also worked
as a supervisor in the Patrol Division and as a
supervisory investigator with the Internal Affairs
Division.
A graduate of Charter
Oak State College with a B.S. in Individualized
Studies, and the FBI National Academy, Deputy Chief
Horvath is currently enrolled in the University of
Boston’s Masters degree program in Criminal
Justice. His professional affiliations include the
FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA), Police
Executive Research Forum (PERF), International
Association of Chief’s of Police (IACP), and the
Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.
