Chief Kevin Jones
Chief of Operations
Hartford Police Department
Born in Willimantic Connecticut, Assistant Chief of Police Kevin S. Jones grew up with becoming an officer in his mind. He felt that the job was in important and that he could make a difference within the community. Assistant Chief Jones graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in Business and Legal Studies. After UMASS, Jones attended the FBI National Academy in the 208th class.
After college, Assistant Chief Jones worked as a public investigator in the Public Defendants Office in the District of Columbia. He also worked as a police officer in Clearmont, New Hampshire along with Amherst Massachusetts, before coming to the Hartford Police Department.
While at the HPD, Assistant Chief Jones worked in the patrol division and the community response division before being promoted to Captain of professional standards division, civil litigations and backgrounds. He was a Sergeant for the Marksman team for 3 years along with the commander of the team for another 6 years.
Currently, Jones is the Assistant Chief of Police: Operations Command. This position involves him to oversee control operations, traffic, community response, along with all of the specialized teams; K-9 units, Emergency Response Teams, Negotiators, along with others. For the future, Chief Jones would like to see the department at full strength, and would like to see an increase in the quality of life for the residents of Hartford.
