Deputy Chief Paul B. Hammick

Deputy Chief Paul Hammick
was appointed to the Hartford Police Department in
February 1990. He began his career in the patrol
division serving as a beat officer, neighborhood
patrol officer and mountain-bike patrol officer. As
a patrolman, he was selected to serve in two
anti-gang initiatives titled, Operations Liberty and
Victory, and commended for his participation in a
street-violence suppression initiative titled
Operation Centurion. In 1993 he earned the
Distinguished Service Award for his role in
disarming a dangerous felon, and the Chief’s Medal
of Valor, the highest department commendation, after
confronting and arresting an armed suspect who had
fired on police officers.
He
was promoted to Sergeant in 1996 and supervised the
patrol division within the City’s west-end
neighborhood. He later served in the communications
division and as Commander of the Evidentiary
Services Division. In 2001 he was promoted to
Lieutenant and appointed Commander of the Major
Crimes Division and later as the Acting Commander of
the Investigative Services bureau. In 2005 he was
selected to serve as a neighborhood commander under
the department’s new Neighborhood Policing Plan.
Deputy Chief Hammick directed police services in the
Southwest neighborhood, and in 2006 was promoted to
Captain and appointed District Commander of
Southwest.
Deputy Chief Hammick is a graduate of Trinity
College in Hartford, CT and Wentworth Institute of
Technology in Boston, MA. He is a 2007 graduate of
Leadership Greater Hartford’s Quest program, and in
2008 he graduated from the 232nd session
of the FBI National Academy and the 38th
session of the Senior Management Institute for
Police sponsored by the Police Executive Research
Forum.
Deputy Chief Hammick is a certified instructor in
Hate and Bias Crimes and a former department
training officer. He is a member of Leadership
Greater Hartford, the FBI National Academy
Associates and the Police Executive Research Forum.
He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Greater
Hartford Police Federal Credit Union.
