Hartford - "Each year the Police Commissioners  Association of Connecticut (PCAC) recognizes members of the greater law enforcement community for outstanding and distinguished service in the field of public safety.   This past Wednesday I had the distinct honor of attending this year’s PCAC award ceremony where our very own Hartford Police Assistant Chief Brian J. Heavren was honored," stated Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts in announcing the PCAC recognition of  Assistant Chief Brian J. Heavren, Chief of the HPD's Detective Bureau. 

"I have had the pleasure of working with Assistant Chief Heavren for over 19 years.  During that time Assistant Chief Heavren has worn the uniform with great pride and distinction.  He is a leader who is committed to the community we serve and protect.   I want to publicly congratulate Assistant Chief Heavren on his well-deserved accomplishment and personally thank him for his efforts throughout his career in service to the people of Hartford," said Chief Roberts.

Assistant Chief Brian J. Heavren joined the ranks of HPD in 1990, graduating 1st in his Academy class.  He was one of several officers assigned to the Frog Hollow Safe Neighborhood Task Force in 1995, pictured below.  Steadily he has moved up the ranks to Assistant Chief and is currently assigned as Chief of the Detective Bureau.

Assistant Chief Heavren’s passion involves Emergency Services.  He has spent countless hours at improving the capabilities and professionalism of the Department's various emergency services,  including the Bomb Squad, Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, The Marine Unit and other similar tactical units.  He has also served as the Department representative to the US Attorneys’ Anti-terrorism Advisory Council and last summer was one of a handful law enforcement leaders invited to Israel to learn about how the Israeli government addresses terrorism.

When asked to comment about his most recent PCAC award, Assistant Chief Heavren stated that he owes a great deal to this family.  He is pictured below with his father who presented him with the award.  In particular he wanted to acknowledge his wife, Monique.  “She has patiently stood by me and accepted the late night telephone calls and call-backs... Without her support and understanding, I would not be as successful at home or at work as I am.”  He also  expressed his gratitude to the dedicated and professional men and women of the Hartford Police Department saying “The Department’s success is a result of their efforts.”
