POLICE NEWS Hartford Police Make Second Arrest in Connection with November 11th James Street Shooting Hartford – Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a November 11th, 2008 shooting that occurred at 69-71 James St, Hartford. Angel Benitez (02/05/87) of 8 Orange Street, Hartford, was taken into custody yesterday by members of the United States Marshal Service Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force and the East Hartford Police Department at 28 Brown Street, East Hartford. He remains in custody on $750,000 bond pending arraignment. At approximately 10:15 p.m. on November 11th. HPD patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired on James Street. A gunshot victim was located on the first floor landing of 69-71 James Street, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the right upper thigh area. Following a lengthy investigation, detectives of the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division obtained an arrest warrant charging Benitez with criminal attempt to commit murder, assault first degree, conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a firearm without a permit in connection with the incident. HPD also obtained an arrest warrant for Samuel Quiles (10/27/83) of 73 Silver Street, Middletown for criminal attempt to commit murder, assault first degree, conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a firearm without a permit in connection with the incident. Quiles was taken into custody on March 12, 2009 in the vicinity of exit 24 on I-91 South after a wanted flyer was distributed throughout the area by police and a probation officer spotted Quiles in a vehicle that traveled south on I-91 in Hartford. With assistance by Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Connecticut State police, Quiles was taken into custody without incident at the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill town lone near Exit 24 of I-91 South.
