Disorder Control Team
The mission of the Hartford Police Departments' Disorder Control
Team is to prepare for, and respond to, incidents of civil disorder, protest, or
any gathering of people with the potential for injury and/or the destruction of
property. The Hartford Police Department Disorder Control Team's priority is the
protection of life, property and critical locations in the city. Through
preparedness and prompt decisive action, the goal of the Disorder Control Team
is to restore law and order when needed.
Every officer of the Hartford Police Department is trained in
basic disorder control tactics. A select few are trained in specialties
including 12 gauge bean bag shotguns, 40 and 37 mm bean bag shotguns, grenadiers
(gas, smoke, and pepper spray grenades), flash bangs, and weapons to deploy
pepper spray.
The 5 levels of the force continuum remain adhered to even with
the specialized teams.
