HARTFORD WIC PROGRAM

 CELEBRATES 8TH ANNUAL

 BREASTFEEDING APPRECIATION DAY

---NEWS AND COMMUNITY RELEASE---

Each year  “World Breastfeeding Week” is celebrated August 1-7 throughout the world to increase public awareness of the importance of breastfeeding as the number one choice for infant feeding.  In Connecticut, the entire month of August is celebrated as “Breastfeeding Awareness Month.”

This year, the theme for World Breastfeeding Week is:  Code Watch: 25 years of Protecting Breastfeeding.  This underscores the need to support the efforts of those mothers who have demonstrated their commitment to giving their babies what doctors say is the healthiest possible start.

On August 15, 2006, the Hartford WIC program will host its 8th Annual Breastfeeding Appreciation day event to give recognition to all women who have breastfed, are currently breastfeeding or who plan to breastfeed their babies.

The event will be held at:

The Santa Marquez WIC Center

547 Park Street

11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

WIC is the special supplemental nutrition education program for low income Women Infants and Children.  It is operated by the Food and Nutrition Division of the United States Department of Agriculture and is administered by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.  The Hartford WIC Program is managed by the City of Hartford’s Department of Health and Human Services.
