ASSESSMENT DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
Discover, list and value all property in the City.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To produce a Grand List by October 1st of each year and to update the existing Grand List to indicate additions, deletions and changes. The department provides services to all necessary agencies and prepares the following Grand Lists: Real Property, Personal Property, Exempt Property and Motor Vehicles. In addition, the department, in conjunction with the Corporation Counsel, assists in the defense of the City’s Grand List in Court and at Boards of Review, and provides information about the Grand List as requested by members of the public.
DEPARTMENT BUDGET:
The 2000-2001 Adopted Budget is $773, 300. This reflects a decrease of $75,240 or 8.9% from the 1999-2000 Adopted Budget.
BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS:
The decrease is a result of transferring funds associated to tax appeal contract services to the Settlements account. Payroll adjustments also contribute to the decreased amount.
