MAYOR'S OFFICE

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Mayor’s Office shares with the Court of Common Council the legislative and policy-making responsibility of the municipal government, receiving community and citizen comment, having responsibility for enacting City ordinances, appropriating funds to conduct City business and providing policy direction to the administration.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mayor presides over meetings of the Court of Common Council. The Mayor reviews and approves all ordinances and has limited veto power. The Mayor also works with neighborhood groups and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints. In addition, the Mayor acts as the principal representative of the City in relations with other governmental units and works with neighborhood groups and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints.

DEPARTMENT BUDGET:

The 2000-2001 Adopted Budget is $427,760. This reflects an increase of $78,180 or 22.4% over the 1999 - 2000 Adopted Budget.

BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS:

The increase is due to payroll adjustments and additional funds added to the contractual service account for awards ceremonies and city memorabilia for visiting dignitaries and guests. The Mayor’s Office will continue to coordinate the City’s Graffiti Removal Program through the Hartford Downtown Council.
