Commission on Refugee and Immigrant Affairs

Description of the Commission:

The Commission on Refugee and Immigrant Affairs was created in November of 2013 and held its first meeting on September 3, 2014. It is a 21 member commission and may include non-citizens.  Members serve two-year terms and may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

The mission of the commission is to create a means for refugee and immigrant voices to be heard and understood, to facilitate civic engagement among refugees and immigrants, and to recognize and legitimize issues of importance to new arrivals in the city of Hartford.

The commission shall advise City government about the needs and status of Hartford’s refugee and immigrant communities and advocate for their interests. The commission shall also facilitate communication and understanding between and among the foreign born and native born residents of Hartford.
