Overview

Nearly 1/3 of Hartford's buildings are historic or local in an historic district.  Our staff is happy to help you navigate special requirements for all properties effected by that require Historic Commission review.  A map outlining Hartford's historic districts can be found here.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

About the Commissions

The City has two Historic Commissions that meet on a monthly basis.  The membership of each Commission is identical.  The Historic Properties Commission considers applications for work on properties that are located in local historic districts.  The Historic Preservation Commission considers applications for work on properties that are listed as state or national historic resources. 

Application & Fees 

An overview of permits and a fee schedule is located on our Land Use Permits & Fees webpage and can be accessed by clicking here.  Applications must be submitted a minimum of 12 calendar days prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting in order to be heard by the commission at that meeting.
