The Equipment Maintenance Division is recognized for the importance it gives in maintaining the Department’s non-personnel resources in a constant state of high readiness. This state of readiness is vital in allowing the Department to respond in a fast and professional manner to alarms. Time, safety of operations and the performance of resources are central to the fire personnel’s ability to arrive at the fire scene within 4 minutes of receiving the notification of alarm. The ability of the response companies to control fire to its room of origin is based upon the interval of time of arrival and the level of maintenance of non -personnel resources. Fire apparatus and technologies are more dependent upon advanced electronics and computer generated performance now than ten years ago. This trend will continue. In order for this skilled technological team to "keep up with" new these technological advances they must be encouraged to attend courses and training that will complement their skill level. In house repairs are less costly than subcontracting to an outside vendor. The maintenance of fire apparatus and other technologies demands a highly trained work force to avoid outside costs and vendors. |
