The Fire Department’s Special
Services Unit brings the Department’s fire safety message including the proper
response to fire, and other emergencies, to all of Hartford’s communities.
Special attention is brought to bringing fire life safety education to the
most at risk populations. Emphasis is placed on the elementary age and pre
school student and the elderly.
The Hartford Fire Department's Fire
Explorer Post Number 1 is a cooperative attempt of the Hartford Fire
Department and the Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America to offer
guidance, mentoring and a strong alternative to street culture. It is a
successful program offering enhanced self image with strong adult guidance to
the adolescent through the young adult Fire Scout.
The Special Services Unit extends humane services to
victims of fire and other disasters. The Special Services Division assists in
providing temporary shelter to persons forced from their homes because of
Natural or technological incidents.
