Neighborhood Beautification Project Completed In "Tower On The Green" Rising
Star Community
Mayor Perez visited the
"Tower on the Green" Rising Star Community, in the Northeast
neighborhood this fall to celebrate with residents their first
completed beautification project, "Everything is Coming Up
Mums". There are other projects in the works as well. Welcome
signage at boundaries of the designated area, and decorative street
name signs will soon adorn the neighborhood. A holiday
party is scheduled for December 15, 2003, and the group continues to
work toward finalizing a neighborhood-wide ornamental lamp post
fixture project. Residents selected "Everything is Coming Up Mums" as
their first beautification project because it would create an
immediate visual impact. "I am impressed by the hard work and
the commitment of time that residents made to brighten their
community", stated Mayor Perez, as he walked through the area.
"The project is a demonstration of neighborhood leadership and self-management which are primary principles of the Rising Star
Initiative", he added. |

all diverse needs are addressed, and everyone in the
neighborhood has a chance to participate.
Current projects include:
- Selecting a name for their Rising Star
Community.
- Exploring community beautification ideas,
which depending on cost and resources, will include tree trimming,

Blue Hills Rising
Star Community Identifies Projects |
| Blue Hills Rising Star
residents have worked diligently to
brainstorm ideas to enhance their community. They met on a block-by-block basis throughout the fall.
Among the ideas under consideration are neighborhood lighting
enhancements, tree trimming, a variety of "paint up" projects, and
distinctive street signs to improve the "look and feel" of their neighborhood.
Historically, the Blue Hills
neighborhood has maintained the highest rate of
homeownership in Hartford. |
