Greetings from the Capital City! Below is a list of some of the big events going on around Hartford this summer. We are excited to see the return of so many great festivals and events that make Hartford such a vibrant and culturally rich city and state capital. iConnect

The iConnect project aims to re-purpose those empty, street-level commercial spaces to create artist lofts and laboratories that will enliven downtown Hartford. iConnect’s mixed-use storefront spaces will feature studios and workshops, exhibits, interactive displays and forums for ongoing community conversations around the arts and other local issues as well as retail endeavors. Mayor Segarra’s Free Movies After Dark

The City of Hartford’s Marketing, Events and Cultural Affairs Division is pleased to announce the return of Mayor Segarra’s outdoor free movie program. Come out to enjoy a free movie in a Hartford park every Friday night from June 14th to September 6th. This year we will be offering 13 movies in 8 parks so get to the parks early to enjoy some family friendly activities, and don’t forget to fill your picnic baskets with all of your favorite treats. Select food and beverage vendors will be available at each park. Movies start at sunset weather permitting, but just in case call our weather line at: 860.757.9009. Hartford Regional farmers Markets

Hartford is currently home to seven farmers’ markets, each with its own history and flavor. The Hartford Farmers’ Markets provide a vital link between local farmers, city residents, and healthy food. We are committed to providing Hartford residents access to fresh, healthy, and local produce. Our seven markets provide a variety of Connecticut grown agricultural products from fresh fruits and vegetables to dairy products to local meats and more.

  • Billings Forge Farmers Market: Every Thursday year-round from 11am-2pm, June-October on the lawn on Broad Street between Capitol Avenue and Russ Street and November-May in the Studio at 563 Broad Street.
  • The First Presbyterian Church Market: Every Monday from 10am-1pm from July 9 – October 29, 2012 at 136 Capitol Avenue next to the First Presbyterian Church and the Bushnell
  • The Homestead Farmers’ Market at the Chrysalis Center: Every Wednesday from 3-6pm from June 27-October 10, 2012 at 255 Homestead Avenue at the Chrysalis Center
  • The North End Farmers’ Market:  Every Wednesday from 10am-1pm, June 27 – October 31, 2012 in front of the North End Senior Center on 80 Coventry Street
  • The Old State House Farmers Market: Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Opens June 11, 2013 — runs through October 29, 2013.
  • The Park Street Farmers’ Market: Every Monday between 9:30am-1pm July 9th through the end of October on the corner of Park Street and Washington Street in front of the Walgreen’s Pharmacy
  • The West End Farmers’ Market: Every Tuesday and Friday, June 5th through the end of October, from 4pm-7pm on the corner of South Whitney Street and Farmington Avenue

Riverfest

Saturday, July 6, 2013. Admission to this event is FREE! Riverfest features free entertainment including a water ski show, lumber jack competition, live bands, amusements, kids’ activities, great food and more— followed by the fireworks at 9:00 p.m. 

Beginning at 4:00 p.m., Riverfest festivities are offered in two locations: Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford and Great River Park in East Hartford.

Monday Night Jazz

The Forty sixth annual, Monday Night Jazz Series in Bushnell Park, hosted by the Hartford Jazz Society will take place, July 8-August 12,2013. Six glorious Mondays at the Thomas D. Harris IV Pavilion, Bushnell Park, Asylum Ave. Hartford, CT.

6-7pm opening act, headliner, 7:30-9:15pm, two forty five minute sets. ConnectiCon

ConnectiCon is New England’s ONLY, massively, multi-genre pop culture convention happening at the Convention Center in Downtown Hartford from July 11th – 14th. The convention’s focus is on all things pop culture and does every genre of pop culture in as big a way as possible. ConnectiCon features Gaming, Screenings, Panels & Workshops, Electronic Gaming, costume events and performances, celebrity and industry professionals’ appearances and autographs, hundreds of exhibitors, and Special Events each year.  For more information, please visit their website http://www.connecticon.org/

CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifier

July 16th 2013 come out to Rentschler Field, East Hartford for the CONCACAF Cold Cup Qualifier between Cuba v. Belize at 5:30pm and USA v Costa Rica at 8:00pm. Taking place every two years, the Gold Cup has become the region's most popular soccer event, routinely drawing capacity crowds and millions of TV viewers throughout North, Central America and the Caribbean. The champion of the 2013 Gold Cup will qualify for a playoff match to decide which CONCACAF national team will represent the region in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup™. Greater Hartford Jazz Festival

The tradition continues July 19th, 20th and 21st 2013 in Bushnell Park, America’s oldest public park, when the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz will present it’s 22nd annual event of hot and cool jazz on the Performance Pavilion and the Friends of the Festival Arch Stage, featuring great artists from around the world and the USA, as well as young and up-and-coming performers from the local region. As always, picnicking is encouraged however there will be several vendors on site. This is a free event and is open to the public. http://www.hartfordjazz.com

Caribbean Taste Of Hartford

The Taste of the Caribbean showcases Hartford's diverse Caribbean community and provides an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to share and celebrate the spirit and captivating culture of Hartford's Caribbean community. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 at the Riverfront Plaza in downtown Hartford. https://www.facebook.com/tastect.org 

Dragon Boat Festival

For the 13th year, Riverfront Recapture is proud to bring you the Riverfront Dragon Boat & Asian Festival on Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th. U.S.A. Gymnastics

We are excited to welcome back U.S.A. Gymnastics from August 15th - 18th. The U.S. Gymnastics Championships, previously known as the Visa Championships, determine U.S. champions and the U.S. national team for the junior and senior elite levels. The competition will be held at the XL Center and tickets can be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com. For group tickets, please call 860-548-2000. Tickets are also available at a discounted price through participating local gymnastics clubs.

Envision Fest

Saturday September 21st 2013 EnvisionFest will showcase and celebrate the ingenuity of the City’s and state’s industries, artists and people, while offering a taste of the transformation of Hartford through the iQuilt plan. Attendees get a glimpse of the future as you experience the iQuilt Plan through walking, culture and innovation. Hartford’s cultural institutions, Connecticut’s industries and artists celebrate their vision of the future through interactive displays, exhibits, performances and activities in open houses and public spaces throughout downtown, all connected through walking and biking routes.
