SUSAN MCMULLEN - CHIEF OF STAFF

Susan McMullen has worked for Mayor Eddie A. Perez since January 2004.  She was named Chief of Staff by Mayor Eddie A. Perez in October 2009.  Prior to serving in that role she was Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Director of Constituent Services. Before moving to Hartford, Susan served as Capital Projects Administrator and Chief of Staff to the Mayor of New Britain CT, and as Director of Communications for the Secretary of the State.  Prior to joining public service, Susan ran a family business for over 10 years, Advance Communications, Inc.  She began her political career in 1993 when a family friend, Bill Curry ran for Governor, whom she served as Deputy Campaign Manager. She was also a delegate to two Democratic National Conventions, and managed the successful campaigns of Jerry Brown for President – CT Primary in 1992, Pawlak for Mayor 1995-1999, and Perez for Mayor 2001.  In 2002 she served as State Coordinated Campaign Manager for Gore-Lieberman.  Susan is a graduate of Trinity College, did post-graduate work at the UCONN School of Law and earned a Certificate in Mediation from the University of Connecticut.  She believes that “government works best when it listens” and, in addition to responding to constituent requests and interacting with community groups, has overseen the creation of 311 services to give Hartford residents one number to call for non-emergency municipal services or information.  Susan also chairs the Mayor’s Technology Steering Committee, which looks at ways to improve business practices and customer service while reducing expenditures through new technology.
