The Communications Division is committed to conveying
essential information to residents and employees as well
as promoting Hartford’s story to visitors and media
outlets. The function is also to connect and coordinate
communications between City department as well as
agencies, organizations, and companies that call
Hartford home. Other responsibilities include news
events, written communications including monthly
newsletters, website content, and photo opportunities.
The scheduling and production of programming on Government
Cable Access Television Channel 96 also comes under this
division. Burchell Henry is the Government Cable
Access Coordinator (henrb001@hartford.gov).
The coordination of Special Events is also a part of the
communications team. Questions regarding permits for
events go to Kejuan Dillard, the Special Events
Coordinator (dillk001@hartford.gov).
Often, event organizers request letters from the Mayor for
programs or souvenir booklets. These requests may be
shared with Sarah Barr, Director of Communications, at
barrs001@hartford.gov.
Please include the name, mission, and other pertinent
information and please make these requests at least two
weeks in advance of the start of the event.
Ms. Barr is also the contact person for talented
individuals who wish to hone their skills and learn about
the City and government through the field of communications.
Internships are offered for college credit or through
volunteer efforts to actively enrolled college students who
can be a part of Hartford’s renaissance! Chosen
candidates will learn about promoting City initiatives
through a wide variety of mediums. There's the
opportunity to have regular contact with media, community,
and government representatives through research and public
events. Cover letters and resumes should be emailed to
barrs001@hartford.gov.
