Goals and Outcomes FY 2007-2008
Goal 1: Make Hartford a Safer Place:
- Public Safety
- Police: Crime levels low citywide; people treated with respect
- Fire: Excellence in emergency preparedness and response (EMT, Hazmat, Planning
- ES&T: People treated with respect; and excellent quality of response for all calls, including analysis and follow-up
- Environment
- Excellence in maintenance of public infrastructure and facilities
- Streets and sidewalks
- Levees
- Public buildings and spaces
- Parks
- Street lighting
- Downtown business and entertainment districts are safe, welcoming and visitor friendly
- Hartford is perceived as a safe place to work, live and play
Goal 2: Provide Quality Education for Workforce Development:
- Students graduate as productive residents ready for work or higher education
- Young children are prepared to realize early success in school and life
Goal 3: Create Jobs through Economic Development:
- City is attractive to new or increased business investment that increases employment opportunities for City residents
- Processes are business friendly and straightforward
- City is forward thinking – looks to the future to differentiate Hartford so that it is seen as a destination for business, commerce, and tourists
- City resources are leveraged optimally
Goal 4: Improve Customer Services through Quality Management:
- City services are delivered to all customers, internal and external, in a professional, responsive, cost efficient, effective and equitable manner
- Culture is customer-centric
- Culture of ownership (no more ”it’s not my job” mentality)
- Good standard processes and use of best practices
Goal 5: Improve City Health and Cleanliness:
- The City has healthy families, children and individuals with access to health care and preventive care
- Neighborhoods have clean streets and yards
- Housing stock is safe and decent
- Buildings are safe for residents and businesses
Goal 6: Stimulate Residential Development:
- Hartford has strong, vibrant and safe neighborhoods where developers want to invest in residential construction and where people want to live and aspire to own a home
- Residential development must address mixed income housing and the need for more affordable housing
Goal 7: Improve Financial Health and Fiscal Accountability:
- Hartford is a city that businesses, developers and bond rating agencies rate as financially healthy and an excellent place to invest resources
- Evaluating use of City dollars to reach the most people, have the most impact and address the priorities/goals the City expects to achieve (connect City dollars to priorities)
