April 13, 200 MAYOR EDDIE PEREZ CELEBRATES NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK HARTFORD,
CT
– Tomorrow, April
14 Mayor Eddie A. Perez will celebrate National
Community Development Week (April 12-18) in Hartford
City Hall. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
program was established by the U.S Congress in 1974 to provide resources
to cities and towns nationwide struggling with problems of poverty and
deteriorating neighborhoods. The national goal of the CDBG program is to
develop and maintain viable urban communities by providing decent housing,
suitable living environments and economic opportunities principally for
persons of low and moderate income. The City of Hartford has received over $165
million in CDBG funds since the program’s inception that have been used
for a wide range of neighborhood improvement
projects which include housing rehabilitation and construction,
street and sidewalk reconstruction and accessibility improvements, as well
as economic development and social services. The

a.m. City
Hall Function Room, 2nd Floor A one-mile walk has also been planned
immediately following the ceremony to support the End
of Homelessness to: Open
