IN HARTFORD Rising Star Communities and Pride Blocks

Mums arrive for planting.

Residents selected the name "Tower On The Green" because the designated area includes a portion of Tower Avenue and certain adjacent streets, and to celebrate the proximity of the Keney Park Golf Course.
Neighborhood Beautification Project Completed in Tower On The Green Rising Star Community

Mayor Perez visited the "Tower on the Green" Rising Star Community, in the Northeast neighborhood this fall to celebrate with residents their first completed beautification project, "Everything is Coming Up Mums".  Additional projects are in the works as well. Decorative "Tower on the Green" street name signs have replaced standard signs and  welcome signage will be erected at Rising Star boundaries shortly.  A holiday party is scheduled for December 15, 2003. Also, the group continues to work on a lighting project which will make ornamental lamp posts available to residents of the designated area.

Residents selected "Everything is Coming Up Mums"  as their first beautification project because it would create an immediate visual impact.  "I am impressed by the hard work and the commitment of time that residents made to brighten their community", stated Mayor  Perez, as he walked through the community this past fall. "The project is a demonstration of neighborhood leadership and self management, which are primary principles of the Rising Star Initiative", he added.

The mums project included large mum planters placed on streets throughout the community by Hartford Proud & Beautiful and mums that residents planted in front of their homes. The mums brightened the area and fostered a common spirit as neighbors helped each other plant mums, as well as shared in the satisfaction of seeing the results.

Residents hold meeting during mum planting. Jacqueline Dickens, (860) 757-9408, is the Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator for the area.
