West End Rising Star Community Begins
to Select Projects

With little fanfare and a great deal of determination, West End Rising Star Community residents are establishing the foundation for consensus building to insure inclusion in the decision-making process.  To assure the opportunity for broad inclusion in their organizational meeting, and to take advantage of the Rising Star Community structure as a tool for community building, flyers were distributed to every household in the designated area. The subsequent meeting was well attended. The West End Rising Star Committee, however, wanted to be certain that all diverse needs were met and that all ideas were included in their next meeting to occur on November 13, 2003.  Therefore, Block  Representatives met with small groups (individuals from their blocks) to consider possible improvements and beautification efforts. These ideas were then brought to the November 13, 2003 meeting, where even more residents took part in a process that allowed for full participation in the selection of the following priorities currently being explored:  a name for the Rising Star Community, and community beautification projects, that depending on cost and resources, will include tree trimming, plantings, street and welcome signage, and lighting.
