A top priority of the Housing Division is to increase homeownership opportunities in Hartford. The City, supported by Fannie Mae, HUD and mortgage lenders, created the HouseHArtford Program, which has assisted more tha twelve hundred Hartford families since its inception. The program is funded through HUD's Home Investment Partnerships Program and down payment to low-income homebuyers to purchase one-to-four family homes. The City partners with local and national banks, real estate attorneys, and homebuyer counseling agencies to facilitate the program. Assistance is available city-wide for low-income families who will maintain their newly purchased home as their primary residence. The HouseHartford Program promotoes livable and sustainable neighborhoods, and makes the dream of ownership attainable for many families who without such assistance would not qualify for a homebuyer mortgage.
