In 1994, 28.3% of all live resident births (or 727 births) were to teenagers, representing the highest rate of teen births in Hartford in the last 20 years. Although rates have slightly decreased over the years, Hartford's rates for Teen pregnancy remain higher than the state average.
Hartford Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, is a 5-year grant funded initiative awarded to the City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department in 2010. Funding is provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The overall goal of the Hartford Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program is to reduce rates of pregnancies and births in the City of Hartford by 10% by 2015.
