Recreation Assistant (part-time) Seasonal

Vacancies are in the Recreation Division of the Health and Human Services Department. Under general supervision, assists, directs, and supervises recreational and community social activities. Plans, organizes, implements and participates in conducting a variety of activities. Referees, umpires, and coaches sports games; promotes team building and good sportsmanship. Maintains safe equipment. Renders basic first aid. Enforces rules, regulations, and maintains discipline. Instructs and officiates team sports. Maintains clean and safe play environments.

Program Supervisor

Vacancy is in the Housing Division of the Development Services Department. Responsible for all program compliance required for municipal, state, and federally-funded programs. Particularly, program and annual compliance related to: Housing Quality Standard Inspections; rent, occupancy, income and residency monitoring; Section 3 requirements; WMBE requirements; Maintaining rent and income limits as defined by Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Recommends and implements corrective or punitive action in instances of non-compliance; Maintenance of mortgage deeds, notes, and agreements utilized by the Division. Under supervision, provides technical assistance and action plans for particular Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) projects.

Citation Hearing Officer

This position conducts administrative hearings on code enforcement, land use, towing, and other citation cases, appeals and related matters. Considers relevant facts, circumstances, and state and municipal statutes and renders judgments. It is essential that the Hearing Officer remain independent and impartial. The Hearing Officer does not represent the City in a Hearing but conducts Hearings and renders decisions in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures established by the Mayor, Corporation Counsel or City Council. This position requires a weekly commitment for up to twelve (12) hours of work.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Doctor of Jurisprudence from an American Bar Association accredited college of law is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of American Bar Association accredited JD program is acceptable.

Hartford residency is required for successful candidates.

Early Learning Center Teacher Assistant

Anticipated vacancies are in the Early Learning Centers of the Office of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation. Under supervision, provides education and childcare for children aged six weeks to six years old. Assists with controlled and free-play activities for children and the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities. Assists in keeping daycare rooms organized and free of hazards, and provides supervision of children in outdoor play. Assumes responsibility of teachers in their absence. Assists in snack preparation and meal service. Assists with classroom dishes and occasional laundry.

Community Liaison

                                           COMMUNITY LIAISON

Vacancy is in the Office of the Mayor, Constituent Services Division. Under the general direction of the Director of Constituent Services and Public Policy. Serve as a referral liaison for confidential constituent inquiries including but not limited to financial, housing, and emotional issues. Complete referrals to appropriate City departments or other agencies in the Hartford community. Coordinate initiatives (programs and projects) among constituents and community leaders to encourage better understanding among diverse social, racial, religious and ethnic groups. Responds in a professional, polite, and prompt manner to requests for services from constituents. Assess constituent requests and refer them to the appropriate department(s) or social service agencies. Tracks and resolve constituent concerns regarding City government. Attends community group, City Council, and/or Commission meetings to track issues of interest to the Mayor. Assists with the research and analysis of policy issues. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Constituent Services and Public Policy.

Life Guard

Anticipated vacancies are in the Recreation Division of the Department for Families, Children, Youth and Recreation. Under immediate supervision, performs public safety and recreational work in enforcing regulations and preventing injuries or loss of life at municipal swimming pools or beaches. Keeps attentive lookout for accidents in water and on deck/beach front. Warns swimmers against dangerous practices and pool/beach policies. Prevents accidents through the enforcement of rules and regulations governing the conduct of persons at a swimming pool or beach. Resuscitates rescued bathers, administers first aid, and calls 911 in serious accident cases.

Police Officer (Not P.O.S.T.)

This posting is open only to those applicants who have worked as a police officer but are not currently P.O.S.T. certified by the State of Connecticut (Comparative Entry Candidates) and provided they meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Have completed at least 2 years of full-time employment as a police officer, AND
  • Have NOT had more than 3 years of separation from a law enforcement unit.

*NOTE: The initial pay rate for Police Officers shall be $784.07 until graduation from the Police Academy. Police Officers with proof of higher Education that meet Established Criteria, shall receive Educational incentive pay upon completion of their probationary period.

POSITION

Vacancies are in the Police Department. Under supervision, performs law enforcement duties involving the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime and the apprehension of crime suspects; and performs public service duties involving non-criminal calls for service, the preservation of peace and working with the community. Works 40 hours per week on a shift rotation schedule involving weekends and holidays. Performs related work as required.
