Mayor Segarra Attends US Conference of Mayors; Accepts National Leadership Award

(June 21, 2013) - Today, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Las Vegas where he will be honored with the Antonio Villaraigosa Leadership Award. The award honors mayors of cities with significant minority populations who display an unwavering commitment to ‘bringing diverse communities together.’ Past recipients include Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia and Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio. Mayor Segarra will be presented with the award by Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles at the Tribute to Mayors reception hosted by the Latino Leaders Network on Sunday, June 23.

Mayor Pedro E. Segarra Statement Regarding Denial of Hartford Superintendent Contract Renewal

(June 18, 2013) – Mayor Segarra made the following statement regarding the denial of Dr. Christina Kishimoto’s contract extension by the Board of Education:

“Since joining city government in 2006, I have been a strong advocate of education reform. During my tenure in Council as Chair of the Operations, Management and Budget committee and now as Mayor, educational funding has increased by $30.4 million dollars.

City of Hartford Begins Milling and Paving as Part of Ongoing Capital Improvement Projects

(June 7, 2013) – Today, the City of Hartford will begin street milling and paving operations at several locations; part of its ongoing Capital Improvement Projects. Over nine miles of pavement are scheduled for rehabilitation, representing an investment of $2.3 million dollars in City infrastructure for the current fiscal year. The work will bring the total road milling and repaving investment under Mayor Segarra to $11.3 million dollars, accounting for nearly 110 miles of restored road surface.

Update: Movies After Dark Series Kicks Off Saturday June 15

(June 14, 2013) – The first showing of Hartford’s “Movies After Dark” series has been postponed to Saturday, June 15th, due to weather forecast. The scheduled feature, “Back to the Future”, will be screened in Bushnell Park.

City of Hartford Accepting Request for Proposals for Development of City-Owned Properties

(June 6, 2013) – As part of its One City, One Plan efforts to increase vibrancy, the City of Hartford is now accepting proposals for the development of several key City-owned properties located in various neighborhoods.  Development can be commercial, residential or mixed use and includes lots and buildings.
