Mayor Segarra Announces Launch of iConnect Downtown Storefront Revitalization

(September 19, 2013) Mayor Segarra announced today an official launch date of October 11 for iConnect, Hartford’s downtown storefront revitalization program, with a satellite location for WNPR and two new businesses, Naturally Dogs & Cats and Hartford Prints!.   The iConnect program is partially funded through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Office of the Arts for the purpose of converting empty storefronts into mixed use spaces. The City’s Marketing Events and Cultural Affairs Department, who administers the project, received over 40 applications from which a total of 5 businesses were selected. 

“iConnect offers a glimpse of what Downtown Hartford will look like in the future,” said Mayor Segarra. “It’s great to hear the excitement from the businesses about being in the Capital City. Change takes time but this is a first step towards pushing our creative economy forward and creating a roadmap to success for some of our entrepreneurs.”

Mayor Segarra Welcomes All to the Capital City for Envisionfest; Free All-Day Festival in Downtown Hartford on Saturday, September 21

(September 18, 2013) On Saturday, September 21st, the City of Hartford in partnership with the iQuilt will host Envisionfest, an all-day arts and culture festival in Downtown Hartford. Envisionfest features more than 100 exhibits, live performances, free admission to museums and cultural establishments and interactive activities.   The event kicks off in the morning with the Bike Walk Connecticut’s Hartford Bike Tour and ends with a free concert in Bushnell Park from Grammy winners They Might Be Giants.

Tuesday: Mayor Segarra Celebrates National Citizenship Day with Swearing In of 30 New Citizens

(September 16, 2013) - In recognition of National Citizenship Day, Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will provide the keynote address at a swearing-in ceremony for 30 new US Citizens in the City Hall Atrium, presided over by U.S. District Court of Connecticut Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez. The Mayor recently submitted an ordinance creating a Commission on Refugee and Immigrant Affairs to City Council.

Wednesday: Mayor Segarra Attends Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Newly Renovated Global Communications Academy; Visits Small Businesses in South Meadows

(September 17, 2013) Tomorrow at 10:00am, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will join Superintendent Christina Kishimoto for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Global Communications Academy on Edwards Street.

Later, Mayor Segarra will visit four long-standing small businesses in the South Meadows industrial area of Hartford; CPI Manufacturing, FW Webb Plumbing Supply, Reliable Electric, Golfers Warehouse.

Mayor Segarra Accepts Resignation from Director of Public Works and Finance; Appoints New Staff

(September 12, 2013) - Today, Mayor Segarra announced that he has accepted the resignation of Kevin Burnham, Director of the Department of Public Works and Julio Molleda, Director of Finance. Mr. Burnham has worked for the City of Hartford since 2002 and has an annual salary of $120,019. Mr. Molleda worked for the Hartford Library and Board of Education before coming to City Hall in 2011 at an annual salary of $151,918. Their resignation is effective October 4th.
