WARM WEATHER EXPECTED TO DRAW LARGER CROWD
 TO HARTFORD’S THREE KINGS DAY PARADE

(January 5, 2007)--- Mother Nature is rolling out the welcome mat for Hartford’s Three Kings Day Parade!  Saturday’s weather is calling for potential record high temperatures and that’s an invitation for more families to come out and enjoy this holiday celebration down Park Street. 

 

WHEN:           Saturday, January 6, 2007

WHAT:           Kick-off is at 9:45 a.m. with the parade stepping out at 10 a.m.

WHERE:        Starting at 95 Park Street and ending at the Pope Park Recreation Center

 

Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez will help kick off the event at 9:45 a.m. and will thank SAMA (Spanish American Merchants Association) for sponsoring the festivities.

 

Three Kings Day is a Christian celebration that commemorates the Biblical story of the Three Kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the Baby Jesus.  According to the Biblical story, the Three Kings--- Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar--- presented Baby Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

 

Mayor Perez will be marching in the Hartford celebration.  This year, the Three Kings will be played by:  Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts, Alfonso Lopez, owner of El Gitano Supermarket, and Fernando Betancourt of the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission.
