MAYOR PEREZ’S APPLAUDS JOB CREATION
AND EDUCATION AT THREE PUBLIC EVENTS
---NEWS ADVISORY FOR JANUARY 17TH AND 18TH---
Wednesday
6:00 p.m. --- Greetings and Congratulations: Mayor Eddie A. Perez will welcome 3,000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority as they honor Ronald Williams, Chairman, CEO and President of Aetna with the Legacy Award. Aetna is bringing 3400 high-paying jobs to the Capital City by 2010. Mayor Perez calls this a “huge investment and belief in the future of Hartford.” The Mayor will also commend AKA its strong educational beliefs--- for cultivating and encouraging high scholastic and ethical standards. The North Atlantic Regional Conference will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Downtown Hartford.

10:30 a.m. --- Jobs are crucial for Hartford’s youngsters: Mayor Perez will applaud “Co-Opportunity” for receiving a $700,000 YouthBuild Grant from HUD. This Habitat for Humanity Project is taking place at Garden and Risley Streets in the Northeast neighborhood of the City. Mayor Perez will congratulate folks for building 34 units and will focus on the importance of our young people having a trade that will give them skills to last a lifetime.
7:00 p.m.--- Education = Empowerment: Mayor Perez will stop by the Steppingstone Academy Hartford Family Informational Meeting at The Watkinson School on Bloomfield Avenue in Hartford’s Blue Hills neighborhood. The Mayor will talk to parents interested in having their children attend Independent Schools. The Hartford Youth Scholars Program prepares students to attend and succeed at Connecticut’s Independent Schools, which are some of the best in the world.
