MAYOR PEREZ APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR FOR
 DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

(January 23, 2007)--- Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez is pleased to welcome Clarence W. Corbin, P.E. as Director of the Department of Public Works for the City of Hartford.  Mr. Corbin is no stranger to the Capital City.  He served as Assistant Director of this department from July 2003 to December 2004 before leaving to become the Director of Public Works in New Britain.  Despite the change in jobs, Mr. Corbin has remained a Hartford resident.

 

Mayor Perez says, “Clarence is another shining example of how a ‘Son of Hartford’ has utilized his education and experience and reinvested it back into his community.   Clarence is exceptionally qualified to lead this department thanks to his extensive knowledge in civil engineering and modern methods and techniques of design, construction and maintenance of public works facilities.

 

Mr. Corbin says, “My main goals are to work with the Mayor and the current staff to improve service, increase recycling, and upgrade the flood control system.  Customer service and safety is essential.”

 

Mr. Corbin will assume his new responsibilities effective January 29th.  He replaces Bhupen Patel who retired last fall.  Mayor Perez would like to thank John McGrane, the Assistant Director of DPW for his work as Acting Director for the past few months and who will return to his position as city engineer and the department’s Assistant Director.  Mayor Perez says, “Over the past few months, John has skillfully guided the department to make sure the residents of the city the effective and efficient service they deserve.”
