MAYOR PEREZ ATTENDS U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

 AND SEEKS FEDERAL SUPPORT FOR LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

 

---NEWS ADVISORY FOR JANUARY 24TH---

 

Wednesday

 

8:00 a.m.--- U.S. Conference of Mayors begins.

 

10:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will meet HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson regarding additional federal dollars to increase homeownership in Hartford.  In 2005, Secretary Jackson came to Hartford to praise Mayor Perez’s leadership and Hartford’s utilization of funds to build homes and to spark more neighborhood economic development.

 

11:45 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will meet with Congressman Joe Courtney to congratulate him on his victory and his mission for the state.  Mayor Perez will take this time to discuss Hartford’s Legislative agenda including federal funding for housing, transportation, the flood control system and the public safety building.

 

3:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will meet with Congressman John Larson to congratulate him on his leadership position in the House of Representatives, and discuss his continued support of issues important to Hartford, including the public safety complex.  Congressman Larson has helped secure federal dollars for road construction and housing development--- two events that will highlight the Mayor’s schedule next week.

 

4:30 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will discuss additional funding for the new public safety complex with Senator Joe Lieberman who helped deliver $1.7 million for the project last year.  Mayor Perez called that grant “a good down payment” on the complex that will house the Regional Command Center that will serve as a communications hub in case a major safety or weather threat hits the Capital City.
