CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

---NEWS RELEASE---

(February 1, 2007)--- “Celebrating Black History is celebrating American History,” says Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez.  Throughout the month of February, Mayor Perez will take part in a number of events honoring the pioneers of the past as well as the history makers of tomorrow.  The Mayor also invites residents of Hartford and throughout the region to join this celebration of diversity and culture.

Mayor Perez says, “I’d also like to pause and remember three local legends who we recently lost, who showed great strength and perseverance and who inspired so many people:  Ella Little Cromwell, Jackie McLean, and William Hales.  Because of their trail blazing work, others can stand on their shoulders and Hartford can stand tall and proud.”

Please look for future advisories for some of the upcoming events that will feature the history and pride of Black History Month.  You can also log on to www.hartford.gov and www.hartford.com for more information.
