---NEWS RELEASE---
(February 22, 2007)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez is once again advocating that the Coltsville Historic District in Hartford receive national historic recognition. The Mayor has sent a letter to the National Park Service saying that he is grateful for its support to designate Coltsville as a National Historic Landmark. The Mayor’s letter to Antoinette J. Lee, Ph.D., with the Historical Documentation Program, expressed thanks that the Park Service for understanding the significance and the symbolism of this community and how vital it can be to Hartford’s future.
Mayor Perez refers to how Colt Firearms made Hartford a thriving industrial center in the late 19th Century and how the weaponry revolutionized military tactics and combat procedures.
Mayor Perez writes, “To appreciate the history of the Colt name in Hartford is to appreciate the impact the Coltsville Historic District will have on this community. The Colt name represents far more than a revolutionary piece of technology; the name itself embodies the spirit of innovation and industrial enterprise. Such a reminder of the entrepreneurial potential of Hartford is essential as economic development and revitalization takes hold in the City. This landmark, accessible to downtown, will not only bring visitors to our City but also add to the already rich cultural experience Hartford has to offer.”
Symbolism also plays a significant role. Mayor Perez believes that the dome atop of the Colt facility has transcended the ages and will continue to help define Hartford as a city of hope, opportunity, and visionary leadership.
