Mayor
---NEWS RELEASE---
(February 26, 2007)---Mayor Eddie A. Perez has placed a resolution on tonight’s City Council Agenda regarding the operation of the parking lot at 1214 Main Street in Downtown Hartford. The resolution authorizes the City to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Hartford Parking Authority (HPA).
In a letter to members of City Council, Mayor Perez writes, “The proposal will generate approximately $35,000 in profit annually under the HPA’s management. This profit will be used to help offset the proposed $350,000 upfront City investment in improvements to the lot which have been identified as necessary to improve safety and security. Currently, the lot generates $12,000 in revenue per year.”
The HPA does not traditionally run commercial surface lots in the city. Mayor Perez believes that the Parking Authority has the expertise to run this lot.
Mayor Perez has also proposed an ordinance further clarifying licensing agreements. It reads that no license agreement for temporary access to city-owned property shall be granted for a term exceeding 90 days unless approved by City Council. Such license agreements shall go into effect if the Council fails to approve or reject it within 30 days of being submitted to Council.
Tonight’s City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Council Chambers is located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, 550 Main Street in Downtown Hartford.
