MAYOR PEREZ CALLS SECOND ANNUAL
FAMILY FAIR A “HUGE SUCCESS”
---NEWS RELEASE---
(March 26, 2007)--- More than 2,000 families enjoyed food, fun, and educational activities at the second annual Family Fair, sponsored by the Mayor’s Office for Young Children. Parents registered their children for preschool and kindergarten, learned about health, daycare, and mentoring services, and just had fun spending time together in a relaxed, creative, and entertaining atmosphere. The afternoon extravaganza was held Saturday (March 24th) at City Hall and the main branch of the Hartford Public Library in Downtown Hartford.
Mayor Perez says, “Education starts at birth and this event shows that families can come together and enjoy the learning process together. It’s about academics, but the information is also about the community--- vital health statistics, emergency communications, and neighborhood organizations that work to build stronger families.”
The Mayor is especially pleased that this venue provided families, who have not yet visited these entities, exposure to information and engaging experiences. Mayor Perez says, “We encourage the community to continue to visit city programs on a regular basis to utilize the services each has to offer.”
Cooperation from Mother Nature and an excellent turnout at Hartford’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade helped make the Family Fair a daylong celebration. Mayor Perez says, “Our kids come first!”
