“THE HARTFORD EDUCATOR”
FOCUSES ON REACHING FOR THE STARS
AND RAISING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
---NEWS RELEASE---
(April 3, 2007)---Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez, in both his capacity as Mayor and Chairman of the Board of Education, is proud of the new spring edition of “The Hartford Educator.” The 16-page publication (in both English and Spanish) focuses on the positive stories about Hartford Public School students, teachers, administrators, and supporters. A copy has gone home with each of the City’s 24,000 students this week and Hartford residents can find it as an insert in Wednesday’s (April 4th) edition of the Hartford Courant.
Some of the highlights of this issue include: Bulkeley High opening the city’s first school-based credit union; the importance of parental involvement in schools; teacher mentoring; and Weaver’s Championship Class L Boys Basketball team--- just to name a few!
Mayor Perez says, “Hartford families need to know that results matter and accountability matters in our schools. We all need to encourage our youngsters to reach for the stars and that includes earning a four-year college degree.”
Mayor Perez also praises the work of Superintendent Dr. Steven Adamowski for his leadership and shared vision in putting our kids first. Mayor Perez says, “Dr. Adamowski understands the challenges of urban education. He has a proven track record in increasing student achievement in the classroom and raising the expectations of our young people so that they can compete for the jobs of the 21st Century.”
Again, “The Hartford Educator” is going home with students, available in the Courant, at Hartford Public Schools, the Board of Education, and City Hall. It is also available online at www.hartford.gov.
Mayor Perez says, “I hope you enjoy reading The Hartford Educator!”
