MAYOR PEREZ SAYS, “HARTFORD PUTS FAMILIES FIRST”

PICTURES AND MURAL ON DISPLAY AT CITY HALL

---NEWS RELEASE---

(April 13, 2007)---Mayor Eddie A. Perez and the Mayor’s Office for Young Children celebrate the  “Month of the Young Child” with a pictorial exhibition and highlights of Hartford’s recent Family Fair.

About three-dozen photographs of the March 24th event are on display at City Hall, showing how Hartford families and program providers had fun sharing and learning about educational and health opportunities that are available through the city and community based organizations.

Of special note is an original mural by Juan Andreu and Humberto Castro Cruz.  They are two locally renowned artists who worked with Hartford families to create an artistic impression of the City of Hope and Opportunity with special support from Janet Leombruni, an Art teacher at West Middle School.

Mayor Perez says, “I invite families and friends from all over to just stop by and see the creativity and all the smiling faces that make up this display.  This is a warm welcome to our citizens as they enter our historic Municipal Building and helps give folks a sense of how New England’s Rising Star is soaring to new heights because we’re proud of our residents and we put kids first.”

Back to March 24th, more than 2,000 families enjoyed food, fun, and educational activities.  Parents registered their children for preschool and kindergarten, learned about health, daycare, and mentoring services, and just had fun spending time together in a relaxed, creative, and entertaining atmosphere.  This collection of pictures captures that mood and will be on display in the Atrium of City Hall, 550 Main Street in Downtown Hartford, through the end of April.  The display will then move to the second floor of the building for the month of May.
