MAYOR PEREZ ASKS FOR MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

---NEWS RELEASE---

(April 13, 2007)--- Holocaust Remembrance Day starts at sundown on Sunday, April 15th.  Mayor Eddie A. Perez is asking Hartford residents to take time to pause and reflect on one of the world’s greatest tragedies as six million Jews were murdered more than 60 years ago and many families were decimated.

Mayor Perez says, “We must honor those who lost their lives and pay tribute to those who survived the horrors of the Holocaust.  This is a day that reminds us of what can happen when bigotry, hatred and indifference are allowed.  Let us remember the lessons of history so that this painful chapter is never repeated.”

Mayor Perez goes on to say, “Hartford is a city of inclusiveness.  Diversity is our strength.  We must educate and sensitize one another about the cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity that exists in our great city.  Respect and dignity must thrive and hatred must be defeated in every form.”

Mayor Perez asks residents to pause for a personal moment of silence to remember the suffering and the survival of the Holocaust.  The Mayor says that this is also a time to take a moment and cherish our own individual families.
