BUILDING STRONG COMMUNITIES IS THEME OF MAYOR’S EVENTS

---NEWS ADVISORY FOR APRIL 28 AND 29---

 

April 28th

 

7:30 a.m.--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez will welcome community and corporate volunteers to the kick-off of “Rebuilding Together.”  This annual event is all about neighbors helping neighbors to fix up their homes.  The event starts at 1000 Asylum Avenue in the Asylum Hill neighborhood and then groups fan out from there.

 

8:30 a.m.--- Mayor Perez and neighborhood volunteers take part in “Rebuilding Together.”  The homes are located on Ashford Street, Branford Street, East Burnham Street, East Euclid Street, Tower Avenue, Palm Street, and Grandview Terrace.

 

11:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will share time with “Survivors of Homicide” as a way to pay respect to those who lost their lives to violence.  This is part of National Crime Victims Week.  Mayor Perez will stress the importance of national, state, and local efforts to get illegal guns off the streets and out of the hands of young people.  This annual event will take place in the Atrium of the Legislative Office Building in Downtown Hartford.

 

11:30 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will pay tribute to those who lost their lives or were injured at unsafe work sites at the Worker’s Memorial Ceremony.  The Mayor will present a proclamation, lay a wreath, and talk about the need for a permanent memorial.  This remembrance takes place on the east side of the State Capitol (overlooking Bushnell Park) in Downtown Hartford.

 

12:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez rejoins the Rebuilding Together team.

 

7:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will help celebrate leadership and having a voice in the community at this year’s Black Governor’s Ball.  This gala event will be held at the Artists Collective, 1200 Albany Avenue in the City’s Upper Albany neighborhood.  The reception begins at 7:00 p.m. with the program beginning around 8:30 p.m.

 

April 29th

 

8:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez will share a pancake breakfast with families of students at Kennelly School.  The breakfast will be held in the cafeteria (White Street entrance).  The school is located in Hartford’s Southwest neighborhood.
