HARTFORD MAKES HISTORY

MAYOR PEREZ AND CHIEF TEALE PROMOTE FIRST WOMAN TO DEPUTY CHIEF AT HFD

---REMINDER NEWS ADVISORY FOR MAY 14TH---

4:00 p.m.--- Captain Carol Stiles will be promoted today to the rank of Deputy Chief at the Hartford Fire Department.  She is the first female in the department’s 218-year history to achieve this honor.  Captain Stiles began her career with the HFD in 1987.  The promotional ceremony takes place at the Old State House on Main Street in Downtown Hartford.

Mayor Eddie A. Perez says, “This is an important moment in the history of our fire department.  Hartford is the City of Hope and Opportunity and this promotion demonstrates that hard work and dedication lead to the inspiration of others.  From one ‘first’ to another, my heartfelt congratulations.”

Fire Chief Charles A. Teale, Sr., says “We have made a great deal of progress through my seven years as Chief but since the founding of the Hartford Fire Department in 1789, few things rival this one.  It is my hope that many females members of our society will be inspired to pursue a career in the Fire Service thanks to this accomplishment.”
