FUTURE LEADERS, A MUSICAL LEGEND, AND COMMUNITY FAITH RECOGNIZED IN WEEKEND EVENTS

Friday
9:00 a.m.--- Mayor Perez, teachers, parents, students, and Diggs Construction will attend the official ribbon cutting at Noah Webster MicroSociety Magnet School that recently received a Hartford Preservation Alliance Award. The $36.9 million project provided Hartford residents with 102 jobs, more than 52,000 working hours, and more than $1.3 million in earnings. The school is located at 5 Cone Street (corner of Whitney St.)
12:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez, Chief Roberts, and CT U.S. Attorney Kevin O’Connor congratulate approximately 85 students from Milner Elementary School for learning how to avoid peer pressure and make positive choices. The first ever “GREAT Graduation” will take place at in City Hall Atrium (first floor) at 550 Main Street.
Saturday
1:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez is proud to take part in the unveiling of Jackie McLean Way. The street name dedication honors the great jazz saxophonist and humanitarian who inspired thousands of Hartford youngsters about music through his work at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and by being the co-founder of The Artists Collective with his wife, Dollie. Sadly, we lost this legend last year, but his memory lives on. The dedication coincides with Mr. McLean’s birthday. This musical tribute takes place on Woodland St. between Albany Ave. and Greenfield St.
4:30 p.m.--- Mayor Perez will help cut the ribbon at the new Mount Zion Church. The congregation is blessing their new building that is located at 1229 Albany Avenue in the rear.

1:00 p.m.--- Mayor Perez’s mother, Felicita, will be honored for being instrumental in establishing Hogar Crea. This treatment, education, financial and rehabilitation service center is celebrating its 14th anniversary at 33 Center Street.
4:00 p.m.---Mayor Perez will focus on “Volunteers of Faith” as the Unitarian Society of Hartford installs its new minister, the Rev. Barbara Jamestone. The importance of connecting with our young people is the theme of the ceremony that will be held at the church, located at 50 Bloomfield Avenue.
