INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITION
--NEWS RELEASE---
(May 24, 2007)--- Mayor Eddie A. Perez is proud that a new and exciting event continues to put Hartford on the world map and he invites residents and visitors alike to experience the international art exhibit called “COEXISTENCE.” Mayor Perez, who serves as honorary committee co-chair, thanks The Hartford Financial Services Group and the Asylum Hill neighborhood for hosting this inspirational event that can be seen at 690 Asylum Avenue (the main campus of The Hartford Financial Services Group).
Mayor Perez says, “It is important for everyone to see that Hartford embraces diversity and tolerance.” The Mayor has temporarily proclaimed Asylum Avenue, between Cogswell and Sumner Streets, as “Coexistence Avenue.” Hartford is the first city in the world to bestow this honor to this magnificent display that has also traveled to places like Vienna, Rio de Janeiro, and Amsterdam as well as Sarajevo, Oslo, and Jerusalem to name a few.
The outdoor display is made up of 45 large-scale works of art (billboard size) that focus on the universal message of acceptance. You can see the display through June 17th.
